I've been doing some research and i'm confused. I'm working on installing an aftermarket deck. I brought the stock radio inside and took pictures of the sticker on the connector for the stock speaker wires. My intention was to do all my splicing inside, where it's nice and warm, then go out and complete the install.

Uuuuhhhhh, no.

From what i'm finding here on the board, the Technical Bulletin and the pdf file when compared to my truck it's not the same as what's labeled in my truck. The picture below show's what is in my truck .....

So nowwwww ..... IIIIIIIIIIII ..... assume I go by what's on the sticker?!?!? :icon_confused:

It might seem like a silly question, but I want to be sure. I've never run into this problem before.

Input please?

This should be the right colors, I can't make out whats on the plug. Anyway it shouldn't matter. Match the colors from the aftermarket deck to the colors of the wiring plug. Then just plug it all in.

Left Front Speaker(+) L BLUE/WHITE
Left Front Speaker(-) ORANGE/L GREEN
Right Front Speaker(+) D GREEN/ORANGE
Right Front Speaker(-) WHITE/L GREEN
Left Rear Speaker(+) GRAY/L BLUE
Left Rear Speaker(-) TAN/YELLOW
Right Rear Speaker(+) ORANGE/RED
Right Rear Speaker(-) BROWN/PINK

Just go to Wal-Mart and buy an adaptor harness. You splice the wires of the adaptor harness to the new head unit's harness and then it plugs right into the truck's connector. The adaptor harness comes with instructions and tells you which wires does what, and your head unit's instructions tells you which wire is which, so there's no guess work. Plus, it makes it easy to plug the factory radio back in, in case you decide to sell the truck. It's well worth the $7.

+1 all the colors should be exactly the same as the aftermarket wires, should all match up, it all matched for me (i have a 97 also, just wired up a pioneer headunit yesterday)
