Wow. This really cool. A friend was over this afternoon and we saw this about an hour ago....it was a neat looking flame in the air right over my property. We searched and found nothing after we saw this 'fire ball'. It might have been ball lighting. Maybe a meteor? It was not a flare since you can see the size of it…….we found no signs of an impact…too bad…I could get some nice money for a chunk of space rock…. But then about 20 min later we see this Sheriff’s helicopter hovering over us and searching the property for some reason. Training mission or maybe an escaped convict? He did not stay long...about 15 min at the most. I wonder if they did that fire ball and were seeing if they could track it or something?? Really weird....lol

First I saw this neat cloud. It looked like and angel and God following him!!!

Then I saw this:

And later on this helicopter:

That's a once in a lifetime show. You should bring the pic into the sheriffs office and ask if that was what they were looking for...

I'm going to say that the falling/burning object is not ball lightning but rather a meteor or something else. Distance to a falling object like that can be deceiving too.

That's a huge change in sky color. How long between each event?

The photo of the sky and the helicopter are from my Canon Powershot that are to the east of the house and the the flaming object is from my cell phone camera. That was taken at the front of the house. The flaming object was taken in the back of the house and I was trying to get a video of it. There is less light out back at this time of day. I should have ruin back to the House to get the Cannon, but I was afraid it would be gone and I always carry my cell phone at all times. That cell video came out real crappy, but the photo came out on the cell phone. I had to open it up in paint to make it a bit larger.
I just called a friend of mine whose brother-in-law works for NASA on the east coast. I sent him the photo of the flaming object. He is emailing the photo to his brother-in-law. He works on the space shuttles and they extended him again after he retired twice the year before last.

That's pretty sweet. Where are you located? Are you close to an airport or Air Force base? I remember as a kid when there were two small planes that collided in the air above a neighborhood. That was messy.

Found an article on it: http://www.nytimes.com/1987/01/16/us/2-airplanes-collide-over-utah-10-reported-killed.html

That plane crash was bad....just sad. Today I was out in Lithia. We have 20 acres of property there. I have a place near Ocala and we have 40 acres there. No AFB up there. MacDill AFB is about 1 1/2 hours away from where the pictures were taken. Nothing on the news, but I will look into tomorrow again.

Uh oh, the aliens are here.

MIB has this covered, no worries man.

you have aplace in Ocala? Thats where Im from, what area? you can PM me so we dont threadjack

the chance that you'd even SEE a fireball is probably close to zero....much less--get a good pic of it !!!!

Good going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd guess someone else saw the fireball and reported a plane crashing and the chopper was making sure a plane wasn't down. When I lived in California I was outside having my morning smoke it was still all the way dark I saw a fireball go across about 3/4 of the sky over head and I saw pieces break off and burn up.....quite cool :) I checked the paper and on the net and never saw any mention of it. It was about the same color as in your pic but was brighter of course since it was dark out.

could be space junk coming out of orbit
