ive been thinking, maybe overthinking, but what if i elimanate the last 90 degree bend in the stock exhaust setup and go straight out the back end, exiting under the rear bumper vs behind the r.r. tire? any benefits/drawbacks? ive x'ed the glasspack idea and am just going to run a turbo muffler, it has a staggered outlet, i could just turn it so the outlet runs close to the bed floor and run it straight out the rear, no bends for over the axle or making the turn to exit behind the tire. id have room for axle travel, thats not a issue. im not even sure it would be a advantage. but what if it would be......:icon_confused:

check your local laws, in louisiana the exhaust must exit the vehicle, and must dump over the axle, personally i had mine dump over the axle and straight out the back, essentially you would have better flow from lack of bends but i couldnt tell you one way or the other. ive had 2 setups one come out at a bend in front of the tire (leg burner) and one just turn down after the muffler in front of the axle to the ground b4. the one that dumped under the bed actually was louder cuz the exhaust was echoing under the bed and reverbing against the ground. the legburner was louder cuz of the shortness of the pipe but really didnt make a difference as far as power was concerned. i thought about doing twin legburners but the guy at the shop quickly pointed out that i have a gas tank in the way so id either have to move my gas tank (which i may do) or just go straight out the back again. basically the only thing i can say about it is if it is shorter its louder if its longer its a lil quieter, and over the axle you def have less cab noise. out the back or behind the tire it doesnt really matter.

hes talking about exiting under the rear bumper...which IS out from under the vehicle.

i had mine set up that way for about a month many years ago. it looks goofy as heck with only one pipe back there...which is sort of what inspired me to run my duals. two pipes poking out the back looks much better than one.

your not going to notice any difference in performance and barely any difference in sound. it would be a purely asthetic change.

i didnt think there would be much of a change, my thinking was less bends, less resistance, better flow of exhaust from the engine. yeah, it would look weird with just 1 pipe hanging underneath the bumper.

well i was just trying to cover all the bases of if he wanted to do a short dump out the side or under the bed as well, i knew he was wanting over the axle and out the back, basically what i was getting at on the last line was behind the tire or under the bumper doesnt really make a dif other than looks, yes the less bends less resistance does make sense. ultimately tho, it may end up being a choice in price, one less bend at the exhaust shop may save you 10 bux or so.

.

+1 Duals would LOOK better, and it wouldnt "drone"

if you go offroading much you might want to consider departure angles. It will be easier to crush or bend your tailpipe than it would be right behind the rear wheel.

If you don't go looking for high ground clearance situations, no problem.
