Hey, I dont really know a whole lot about swapping from the stock 1998 ranger set up to straight axles. Does anyone have any idea what it would take to do this? for example what axles i would use and how much it would cost? thanks.

All I can tell ya is look around. Search the build threads. There's so many variables, you've just gotta figure out what you want, what you need, and what's involved to solid axle a 98+. Assuming you've got torsion bars.

Bottom line: search.

Ideally a from axle from a '76-'77 Bronco is best because it is a Dana 44 and the right width with disc brakes. Downside, they are scarce as hen's teeth now and expensive when you do find them. A Dana 30 from a late-model Cherokee will work too and cost a bunch less but isn't as strong. A '98+ Ranger requires a lot more fab work for an SAS because there are no coil buckets like a '97 and earlier Ranger has, plus the rack and pinion steering isn't real adaptable to a solid axle.
Oh, an IH Scout Dana 44 will work also except that the vast majority of them have drum brakes and the bolt pattern is different, so you will need different wheels front and rear.
Cost be about $2000 and up depending on what you pay for the axle and how much you can do yourself.

Alright thanks for the information man. I really dont know what to do with this truck. The lift kits for the 98+ are outrageous and i dont have that kind of money right now. I just want a clean, nice looking 4x4 truck that can get me places offroad. I just dont have the money to invest. Any small cheap mods you would recomend for the 98 ranger that make a big difference?

If you don't have the kind of money for a bolt-in superlift at $1500, then you definately won't have the kind of money to solid the truck...

This went from Solid axle to small cheap mods? k.

If you want a lift, bodylift it for $200, throw on some 33's and it might be just want you want. Throw in a Lock-Right in the ass. And hope you've got 4.10's in your axles already.
