Straight 6 instead of 4 cylinder

Hey Guys. I was given a straight 6 200 engine out of a 66 mustang. I am wanting to put it in my 88 ranger. It has the stock 2.3 4 cylinder and 5 sp manual transmission. What do you think about it? Am I nuts? Will the 200 bolt up to my 5 sp or should I put a automatic in it? If I need to put in a automatic, which one?

As far as what tranny it can bolt to I'm not sure but if you want to go for different I say go for it. I would do it if I had the engine I would do it.

I have a 200 six....

They have less power than the 2.3 your taking it out for...

Your also very limited on tranny choices....A T-5 can be adapted with a modified SROD Bellhousing(rare), or a T-4 bellhousing (super rare) or you can get a 3.03 bell (getting rarer) and use the $175 adapter plate and use a hydraulic slave, or you can run a toploader.... Or you can run a C/4 or C/3 auto.

They are WAY expensive to build and make a sort of decent power with...

Your only option to make power on the cheap is to turbo it, and at that, your looking at 4.0 power levels at best. Anything more than that is going to be $$$...
