Stock Tire Size

What should be the stock tire size for my 1994 XLT 2.3,5spd, 2wd? I currently have some so-so P225/70R14 tires on there now and with Winter coming up I need to find some better ones. Unfortunately, probably used ones at this time......or chains......

A 215/70/14 is probably the stock size tire for your truck. I would definately invest in some chains as well they are lifesavers!

Can I put a different size tire on these rims? Not very different, but maybe....P195/70R14.....or.....P215/70R14? Would different size back tires be bad? I assume width would not be an issue just heigth.

Your stock tire size is 225/70/14, says so on the driver's side door jamb. I am running 215/70/14 Firestone Winterforces for the winter, and it makes the speedo read maybe 1 MPH slower than it should? Check this website out, and plug in the two tire sizes, and it'll tell you the percentage your speedometer will be off.

Since I assume you have a 2wd with 14" rims you can put different sized tires on the front and back. I have heard both ways that a narrow or wide tire is better on ice. A skinny one will concentrate the weight on a smaller spot and allow the studs to dig into the ice better where a wide tire would help keep the truck above the snow.
