Hey,
I am trying to find the best way to be able to hook my ipod touch 4G into my stereo. I also want to keep the stock head unit. I was wondering what would be the best way of doing this?
I have a 2002 xlt without the 6 cd changer and i am not sure if it is set up for it (i've been looking around and that is aperently important).

does the stock head unit not have an aux input? 3.5mm headphone jack looking thing?

if not, there's not a good way to do it. yeah you could fm transmit it, but get a GOOD one. i'm talking it's gonna bee $80+ and then you still might have to deal w/ static and crap. fm transmitters dont work all that great in my area.

well i just googled ipod to stock radio and came up w/ this
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-1E00V1VuDuw/p_541PXDP/Peripheral-iPod-Adapter.html
says it works for cd changer equipped vehicles..
look into it, read some reviews, see if it works for your ranger. that way it should charge your ipod and have a good input not having to rely on fm transmitting

I bought a $50 DLO FM transmitter that works great for me..

You just can't get away with the cheapy ones.

It would REALLY make more sense to buy an aftermarket head unit. Bluetooth... Aux Input... USB input... Ipod Control through the unit... Boost in power to ur speakers... and good looks in most cases...

It'll cost ya between 50 and 100 bucks to get a good adapter. It'll cost u between 100 and 120 to get a head unit with all the features mentioned, i think it makes more sense in the long run unless u have something preventing u from doing so.

Installs are really not difficult...

Get a stock radio out of a newer Ranger with an AUX input

The iSimple PXDP will work with your factory radio. Using the correct vehicle specific harness and everything becomes plug and play. The correct harness can be found at PAC-Audio and the correct number should be PXHFD3

I still find it over all most cost efficient to replace the headunit. A lot better radio with USB, aux, and all...
