my cd player was stolen from my 97 ranger. what stock cd players will fit will fit my truck

junkyard

I'd just hit the junkyard with measurement and harness clip if you can. Don't really need it but it's easier to find the same, so you don't have to mess with wiring.

car-part.com is showing 97 Ranger/Explorer/Mazda B-Series as the only options. I'm sure there's others but you just need to check dimensions and harness plugs as mentioned.

Any '95+ will work.

The '95-'00 are direct plug and play swaps.

The '01+ you have to get a reverse wiring harness and wire it up that way. I had a '06 CD6 in my '97 and I didn't do any hacking to the harness.

Reverse wiring harness??? you gotta be hacking up at least one of them to make the radio work.

last time I checked... 86-97 had something like this:
227.9736.600x400.FD02RB.jpg

and 98 and up had:
243.9764.600x400.FD16RB.jpg

'00 or '01 is when they swapped to the "World Plug".

If you get a reverse wiring harness and an aftermarket radio wiring harness for the year Ranger it is going in ('95-'99), and then put the reverse wiring harness and the aftermarket wiring harness together, you will NOT hack up the Ford factory wiring and the newer Ranger radios with the "World Plug" will be a plug and play install.:icon_thumby:

i have a stock unit that works great, came from my 95. for sale. also, some taurus and focus had the same radio. i actually like the stock unit a lot, just no place to plug in my ipod. i would ship it, but that tends to screw cd players up with out using proper shipping screws.

what's a world plug...? show a picture of this "world plug". My radio from my 01 (originally from an 02 ranger) has the same exact "plug" my 98 ranger had. And to add more to it... I'm using the same aftermarket harness from that 98 ranger I had... which is now in my 01 for my kenwood head unit. I'm honestly confused...

I guess it came out in '98. The "World Plug" is what the square single plug is called.
