my 93 has 215xxx and ive got the rocker and rod tick happening and i know i need a valve job so i was wondering what years the heads are better for the ohv 4.0?:icon_confused:

You sure it's not pushrods and rockers? Mine were worn out at 135k. All you need to do for that is take the valve covers off.

If you do need a valve job however, I know what the difference looks like, but I cant tell you wat year to grab them off of. Where the rocker shaft bolts on at it should be square/rectangular instead of round.

SOHC heads are supposed to flow better.

i have an ohv 4.0 and i want to keep it running for as long as possible it for sure needs a valve job and i want to know if there was a better stock head for it over the ones i have

93 and newer heads are fine. Keep em, get the valve job if it's needed and save the money on different heads. If your engine is basically stock and there are no cracks in the heads don't worry about it.

????

Why do you think you NEED a valve job? Is it running rough and popping and crackling? Nobody NEEDs a valve job unless they have aburnt valve!
Valve jobs are simply MORE wear on the valves.. If it is running smoothly a valve job won't do ANYTHING for it.

hmmmm

it has a miss only when idling but no eng light on and im only getting about 13mpg

Do a compression check and see if it is a valve causing the miss at idle, before you tear it down..
Most idle misses are fuel mixture or spark related.

Whens the last time it had plugs wires and an air filter? None of those will throw an engine code being worn. But if theres a constant miss when idling, the CEL should be on. Make sure the light isn't blown.
