Front end works fine , but while it is up, I get a whiff of gear oil and there is road crud and gear oil under the pumkin. So its weeping. I want to drain and fill both diffs. Just to base line line stuff. TIA

No drain plug, have to disassemble the axle to drain it:annoyed:

Yup, the drain is between the pumpkin and the beam. Gotta pull it apart.

if its weeping, you gotta replace the gasket anyway right? Might as well just rip it all apart, clean it up, and go from there.

nope, knowing it leaks is good enough. I'll buy some 80w90 to top it off. BTW, if that monstrosity is the best Ford could do for an independent suspension , why bother. I never had any trouble with a D44

Who said it's supposed to be an independent suspension? It's supposed to be a truck suspension. It has always been classified as a semi-independent. It didn't need to be as strong as a solid front axle, the truck isn't powerful enough to need that kind of load rating.

If they had wanted to put a truly independent setup on it the technology was there, Tempo and Taurus were out with the same basic setup as the later Rangers. They did that because there was no need for a solid front end but people still understood that IFS sucks balls on a pickup truck because its NOT A FLIPPIN CADILLAC!!!!!!!

So if you want a solid front end, there are lots of write ups and threads here on doing it. If you don't, stop whining.
