Hi,

I'm new here so I'm guessing this is the place to ask?

I have a '96 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab with an all mechanical (no power locks, no power windows) door that just developed a problem with the lock being extremely stiff when the window is rolled up. When the window is rolled down, the lock is fine and functions in its normal loose behavior. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum. This is the first time I've heard of this problem and all I can suggest is remove the inner door panel and watch what happens when the window moves. Something has probably come loose and is causing the lock to bind somehow. post what you fond.

I'm not sure I completely know how to remove the door panel to find the cause of the stiff lock. I found the two screws behind the interior pull-handle and there's a torx screw holding the window crank lever in place but the door panel still refuses to come loose. What am I missing?

I'm not sure how many screws are involved on a 96. The edges are usually held by clips. Hopefully someone with a 96 will chime in with a bit more information.

Your inner door is flexing when you roll it up to full stop. I had the same issue with my BII. The only way i know how to fix it is pull the door panel and check the inner door for cracks around the rivets and any of the inner track supports for the window, I had to drill the cracks and weld the areas around the rivets to fix mine.

Did you remove the pull handle assembly? There's one screw in the panel behind the pull handle holding the panel to the door and one at the lower rear corner of the panel that may be hidden by carpeting if you have carpeted panels. Then you lift the panel straight UP. It's held on by hooks, not clips.
