I have an '89 ranger and the fuel gauge does not go any lower than 1/4 tank even if the tank is empty. Anyone know of a reason why it might do it, how to fix it?

Thanks

I have the same problem, did you ever find a fix?

Nope, I guess I need to pull the bed and check the sending unit in the gas tank. I just don't have the time right now to do this. Had the truck for 6 years and I am used to the gas gauge now.

has the fuel pump been changed? My guess is that if the pump has been changed the float/sending unit is screwy (i think this is a common occurance for some strange reason on replaced pumps). as you stated above ^^^

It's been doing this the past 6 years since I have owned the truck. I have gotten used to it. But would still like to know what is causing this.

the gauge on my truck works fine, then at 1/4 tank, it sticks, and then when it gets very low, it goes straight to E
