I have a 96 ford ranger xl, with a Sony deck which was installed 2-3 years ago. Whoever installed it did something pretty weird, hooked it up into my light circuit. So for the deck to turn on, I have to have my lights switched on. It used to work not bad, but recently it will trip out if I turn it up passed a certain volume level (although not even loud), sometimes it will trip off when I'm breaking, because it is tied into the light circuit so the brake lights must trip it off. It wont even spin a cd anymore, thats too much power. Just radio and the aux. port will work on it. Any suggestions on what could be causing this/ how to repair it? Am I best off just totally re-installing something new, and get it off the light circuit? thanks

You can buy a spade that taps into a fuse maybe put one in the radio fuse and run it on the radio circuit.

You shouldn't have to tap into any fuse. The original stereo had a power wire, just use that one.

alright i'll give that a try. thanks

there should be a power and ignition.. it keeps cutting out because the wire he tapped doesnt have enough power. you may have to run a wire straight to a main power supply or even the battery

unless it was hooked up to a wire from the comp that had a regulated voltage. he wouldn't have this problem. its the lights then there is nothing to interfere with current draw, and would just over load the circuit and pop fuses all the time.
