Stereo question for my new-to-me B2300...

Just picked up a 1996 Mazda B2300 (AKA 4 cyl Ranger) with no stereo. According to the seller the truck previously had an aftermarket stereo that was stolen.

My question for the group is this: I want to put in another aftermarket system, and will most likely be going through Crutchfield since I've had good experiences with them in the past.

Anyway, what I wanted to find out was whether there were any internal brackets or braces that the radio would mount to. Here is a photo of the radio compartment now:

Basically there are no brackets of any kind on the side, just a horizontal bracket on the bottom.

I know Crutchfield often sends a metal "sleeve" that the stereo goes into, but are there any other brackets (like OEM side brackets) that I would need to get?

BTW, does that look like the stock wiring harness? It appears to be intact, which is a good thing!

You've got it all. The Ford radio bottom had a plastic runner that hooks around that center slide rail in your photo, and which can be seen in here: http://imgur.com/a/xWGY6

The sides of the Ford radio had spring clips that expanded outwards as they slid into place behind the surrounding bezel, so the clips prevented your radio from sliding out. Simple & effective mechanism, which looks like this:

You're good. Just a standard dash kit will snap in. And your harness looks fine...but there should be 2 of those right? A black and a grey

the big black coaxial is your antenna, and then you should have no less then

1. Alway hot
2. Ignition Hot
3. Ground
4. Illumination
5. Front Left +
6. Front Left -
7. Front Right +
8. Front Right -
9. Rear Left +
10. Rear Left -
11. Rear Right +
12. Rear Right -
13. Remote Turn On (maybe)

if this number or more of wires are present you are set to go!!!!
all you need is this:

Double-Din Radio Dash Kit
Single-Din Radio Dash Kit

Question about wiring

CURRENTLY WORKING ON 93 RANGER, HAVING SOME SOUND ISSUES, HAVE A 92 MAZDA B2600I, (NOT RUNNING, BUT MOST LIKELY KEEPING IT) ANYWAYS, THE MAZDA CAME WITH DECENT AUDIO SYSTEM, ONLY DOWNSIDE IS SOMEONE DID NOTHING SHORT OF A HACK JOB WIRING IT?
JUST EVEN THE AFTER-MARKET DECK, ITS REALLY NICE DECK & IM NOT AN IDIOT BUT TOOK APART DASH TO SEE ABOUT MOVING IT INTO RANGER AND GOT SHOCKED & BLEW OUT LIKE 4 FUSES B4 REALLY ATTEMPTING TO DO ANYTHING.
PREVIOUS PERSON WHOEVER DID THIS, CHOPPED WIRE HARNESS AND JUST KINDA USED A BIT OF MASKING TAPE HERE &THERE W/WIRES, NOT LEAVING ME ANY SLACK TO TRY TO EVEN BEGIN TO UNDO THE MESS. IS IT WORTH IT, OR JUST WORK W/RANGER &TROUBLESHOOT THERE?

I think it's certainly worthwhile to solder (or crimp) those wires and install proper insulation on the splices. Masking tape falls off, in time. Sparks fly when bare wiring touches something metal. Sparks start fires. I've witnessed vehicles catch fire & burn to ground, even while parked & nobody was nearby.
