I have a 1983 ranger that came from the factory as a radio delete truck so I'm wanting to install a under the dash 8 track fm stereo.

On the back of the stereo is a sticker showing what each wire is for, I have five wires

red= 12 volt +
black= GND
white= GND
green= L speaker
grey= R speaker

I was planning on connecting the red wire straight to the battery since it has a fuse installed in the red wire.

I'm confused on everything else, so am I to ground the black and white wire to the truck? And one speaker wire per speaker, aren't speaker's suppose to have a + and - wire.

If anyone can shed some light on this stereo it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Chuck

What do the wire ends look like?

12+(red) should go to the "power" side of a fuse in any fuse panel.
The fuse should only be "powered" when key is on(run) and in "accessories" position.
So get a 12v test light and test for fuses that only have power when key is on.
A fuse has two contacts, power and load, power is the 12v from the battery and load goes to the "device", like the cigarette lighter.
So if you remove the fuse and test each contact only 1 will have power, that the one you want to connect to.
The radio red wire already has a fuse and this way the radio load will not pass thru the fuse connection you use, so no blown fuse from too much power.

The reason you do not want to hook directly to the battery is that YOU WILL leave the radio on one day, and will come back to a dead battery, this is not a guess it absolutely will happen.

The GND(Black) wire connects to any convenient grounding point , this is the 12+ ground for power.

These are for the speakers
white= GND
green= L speaker
grey= R speaker

The white wire will have 2 wires connected to it, 1 from each speaker.
