So the stereo sucks and i want a better one but not a ton of cash. I have a 97 reg cab and as far as i have researched it has 4 6x8s is that right? also i wanted to add one 8in sub in it but i'm not trying to blow my ears out, but i do like to rock some NWA and what not now and again. my question that i cant figure out is... I dont see much point in having 2 of the same speakers right next to each other so if i get a new heat that has 50W per chan and put decent 3 way 6x8 in the door w/ separate tweeters can you hook the 2 rear wires together and make 100w going to the sub with some filter to just send the bass? like putting 2 batteries together to go from 1.5v to 3v ??? I really don't have much exp in all that a/v stuff I just want an ok system with the full range of sound. I was going to get this:

it has 4 inputs is that what they are for?

trust me. your going to want 4 speakers. you wont hear all the detail without em.

personally, if your going to amp the speakers. id run component speakers in the front, and coaxials in the back.

the way most do it is amp your front speakers, and run the rears off the headunit. but this doesnt sound very good to me because i like all 4 of my speakers to scream.

what is your budget for everything. and whats your style of music? give me that, and ill work up a system for you.

Running just the 2 front speakers is fine, but you cannot take the other speaker wires and connect them to the sub. You need a separate amp to power the sub.

current thoughts

if i couldn't bridge the rear speakers to the sub I was going to get this for the 6x8
http://www.crutchfield.com/g_51900/5-x7-6-x8-Speakers.html?c=3&tp=93&avf=N

or put them in the back and 5.25 in the door

This for the sub to go behind the seats in the center of the back in a FG enclosure

A head like this

and just a little amp for the sub maybe this

The stock stereo all the way to the max is about as loud as a person talking at normal level, and i listen to everything from Sinatra to NWA but its a small space so i don't feel the need to go crazy... however rap beats dont sound right without some bass :icon_bounceblue:

don't use no walmart crap. look up autotek online its made by the company that make highfonics, mb quarts, crunch... I use them and was skeptical at frist cause their so cheap but they do the job better then most some of the cleanest sound i've heard from just an amp..

For a regular cab I honestyl wouldn't bother installing rear speakers. They're in such a poor location you will be barely able to hear them anyway. And I would stay away from that amp you posted. You can get a MUCH better amp for $60.

i agree in a regular cab.

but i would def. spend the extra and get component speakers then.

so if i ditch the rear ones and the head is 200W 50x4 can you wire it to 100wx2? sorry for my ignorance

you can but its not a good idea the head unit doesn't have enough power for a sub regardless of how many watts it says it has it won't get enough power from the battery over working it making it run extremely hot, you'll blow fuse's left and right and can burn a hole in the head unit amp... just do it right or you'll spend alot more money i have over 10years doing custom audio and have many friends that own custom audio shops i've seen cds melt in the radio because of this

no. all headunits are marked at the MAX wattage rationg. this means what the stereo could put out when music hits a sudden burst. it probably will NEVER see that wattage.

RMS ratings are the mose accurate. that tells you what power the stereo is putting out at all times.

depending on there stereo, and the brand. rms wattage will be between 12-22 watts per channel.

so even if you did bridge the channels, which you cant, you would only be putting out 44 watts at the most.

you need an amp to put out real power. enough said
