I have a 99 ranger 4x4 thats a stepside and absolutely hate it because of how small the bed is, will a regular bed mount the same as a stepside?

Yes, but you will need the filler neck for a regular (fleetside) bed and the rear bumper is wider for a fleetside bed as well.

Basically what he said... but you would be going from not fitting a sheet of ply wood to almost fitting a sheet of ply wood. Strangely I didn't find much difference between a flair side and a fleet side in bed space because the wheel wells are there and they take out any chance of getting my larger 4 wheeler in anyways.

you cant just get plywood, an atv, etc. over the wheel wells? I know the beds phsically wide enough, just gotta work around those humps.

Thats my problem, I cant fit my quad into the bed its about 48 inches wide and the beds like 46.. Ive done it but its a pain in the ass trying to cram it in there and having 3 people pry it out.

Yeah I tried putting my Grizzly 660 in the back of my 84 and it fits but its the biggest pain in the ass trying to get the thing over the wheel wells. My dad broke 2 tailgates trying it. and I think the ply wood can fit but not very well. I like the look of my step side and it can haul pretty much everything I want it to minus the big 4 wheeler and a sheet of plywood. Building a rack for the plywood should I need to carry any and the ATV can sit on a trailer (whih makes it sooooooooooo much easier to off load.)

I can't justify swapping to a regular bed, oh and you need to remove the fender flairs and fill/paint the holes to match your non flaired truck.
