any who....throwing the idea around of making my 84 2.8 run on propane?

reason being. i don't have one and it is something different than a v8 swap.
any ifo would be great:headbang:

thought about doing mine a couple years ago. search the web for 'propane conversion' and you should find something. kits were going for about $1,000 not including the propane tank. but the conversion was pretty straight forward and you could switch from propane to gas keeping your old gas tank, lines, etc.
not as many btu's per gallon of propane compared to gas, so you'll loose a little power. up side is you're engine won't gum up nearly as fast as it burns so clean.
good luck and post up when you do it. will be fun to see how it all goes together!

Sounds like a good emergency fuel! If you could tuck an oval tank under somewhere. Propane seems to last quite a while just chilling in its tank.

People have done it but say they can only rev there engine up so high. Some people have used the stuff off a for lift and put it on there enigne.

Just dont put the tank in that passenger seat and hook a line to the tank and run it to the manifold, I just know that will never end well. Will that work, sure, will it go boom, you bet.

Take a look under the alternative fuels section, thres alot more info on this subject.

are you wanting to do propane for the same reason most guys want it? that is to avoid the bogging/flooding of a carb in the hills? i used to work for a towing company that had a truck that had a 454 converted to propane. they swapped one of them for their longer distance jobs to save $$, the way it worked was the fuel economy was better (dollars per miles), but the power was a joke. you could turn up the propane to a "richer" setting to get the same power as on gas but then the economy went waaaaay down to costing more dollars per miles than the gas did

if you want something that will run at any angle do the tbi swap to your 2.8, propane will end up costing you more money in fuel than gas if you set it right because i don't think a 2.8 could stand to have any less power than it already does

Gas and propane tractors usually get about the same power ratings out of the same basic engine. The propaners had more compression though... which makes sense because most people that "convert" to propane are still running a gas engines compression with less than steller power output.
