I have a '99 XLT with no fancy cruise control and whatnot. After driving my friend's '05 Explorer, I am in love with the steering wheel. If I pick up a new Ranger steering wheel (the 06+ kind with all the bells, whistles, and new spoke design), would it work with my '99?

I know the wiring won't bolt up but I'll be installing aftermarket cruise control and I'll find a way to rig the volume buttons to the radio.

Did they change the shaft splines, depth, and whatnot on the newer Rangers? How about the airbag plugs? Thanks guys!

I can not help you...

However I thought it was funny that you liked the new design b/c I can't stand it. I hate the dash and the steering wall of the newer rangers.

I can't say for sure but the wiring might be the same I took a 2002 tilt steering column out of an explorer and mounted it to a dash out of a 97 ranger into a 84 ranger. The f150, explorer, ranger, mountainer, bronco and one of the van models all used the same column for a number of years.
All the wiring was the same. I even took the gem module out of the 04 and used it in my truck. I have had no issues. You can only try.

Perfect, thank you. Glad to hear it all lines up.

Yeah, for some reason I love it. I hate my '99's wheel.
