I noticed the steering pump is making a whining noise, I have checked for leaks (none) and topped off fluid ( did not need). Hate the noise....

If I have to replace what do I need to know about the one I have, beside its bad haha

Whats next ?

The whine is a result of the design, more than anything else. Even new PS pumps will whine. You might get one with LESS whine, but don't expect silence.

i replaced mine sometime ago, still whines, its a design thing, what type of fluid ur using?
we by accident filled mine with ps fluid, and whined a lot, then i saw on the manual that mercon atf is required, i replaced it and the whining is softer.

I did top it off with PS fluid, how should I replace with atf fluid? Is there a process or just get out what I can and top off with ATF ?

oo that could be giving u excesive noise, i unhooked the hoses at the bottom of the truck, near the hidraulic sector
told my bro to start the engine, and turn softly the wheels, once the fluid went all out of it, started to do loud noise, i started adding the atf, i used a quart for flushing, then shut the engine, hooked the hoses again and top it with atf.

Well last night stuck a clean towel in PS pump, it sucked most of it out, not all but a lot.
Topped off with ATF and seems better all ready. Will repet in couple days.

thanks all

Synthetic ATF made mine a lot quieter.

I simply sucked it out of the reservoir and put in the new ATF, drove it for a day, repeat until I used a whole Qt. I've read that others recommend Lucas PS Quiet additive and some have put some Rear differential Limited Slip additive in there with success.
