I have a 1988 ranger it had a 4 cylinder in it and i'm just curious how many splines are on the steering box?

Is it manual steering ot pwr

I guess the spines are supposedly different with each steering box....no experience of my own but i AM interested in a manual steering box myself....and have seen many of 4 cyl rangers....is yours 4wd?

no, mine's a 2wd. It has one flat spot in it. I counted the splines and found 28. I called to get a coupler for it and the shop said that if it had one flat spot then that means it's a 36 count spline. Hope that helps you out.

i should've3 asked ....

which spline?...i was assuming the pitman arm..but i understand that the coupler shaft is different for power steering as well as the pitman arm .....

so is yours pwr steering?...or maunal?....

i can't confiim the count on a manual steering box....i don't own one YET....i am removing one soon from a donor of a friends wreck....he has only ONE extra...

I imagine a manual box coupler would be the same for 2wd or 4wd...but i have been told they are different from a pwr steering box which is most common....which i have two of but can't get that count for you tonight....i'll check 2marrow.....good luck....
