ok to start i bought this ranger about a a year and a half ago it is an 87 stx 4x4 5 speed when i bought it all it needed was a freeze plug the owner thought the motor was cracked cause it was leaking fluid . so i got it for 200$:icon_thumby: ibought it for a mud truck and i started by putting a 3 inch body lift on it and cut the fenders to fit 35's it ran like a champ for about a month .and then i took it to an event called mudfest here in florida and i blew my front axle shaft . and it was still running fine .after reading up on this web site i figured i wassent goin to drop any money in a dana 28 so i went to a junk yard and got explorer running gear and i did a 35 swap with new warn lockinh hubs and 8.8 swap with a 4 inch lift after all this i went to start it and it wouldnt run it turned over fine but wouldnt start for nothing so i changed the distributer cap and rotor spark pugs ,wires it had spark .still wouldnt run so i went out and bought bosh injectors still wouldnt run . fuel pump works and has fuel to the rail, changed the fuel filter still nothing so it sat in the front yard with a cover over it for about a year now. here and there i would try random things to get it to start and nothing worked so far.

Possible inline fuse prior to the starter solenoid??
should turn over...bad starter??

check the battery cables...make sure they are making good contact....focus in ground wires, there is several grounds.

ignition relay??

just tossing out some thoughts

got it to turn over

after looking at my battery connections they didint look all that bad but decided to change the ground cable any way and it fixed it it turns over good now . but back to the no starting problem i got it to run while spraying starter fluid but it will die immediatly after i stop, so im thinking its a fuel problem im wondering if mabe my injectors arent fireing for some reason mabe there is not enough fuel pressure ? when i push the fuel rail button gas shoots out realy good so im not sure why gas isnt getting to the engine.any sugestions?

i was also concidering mabe i put the distributer wires in the wrong order i know the order is 1,4,2,5,3,6 but im not sure i put #1 in the right spot because it dosent say on the cap i just put it closest to the black dot but it could be one of two spots so i was wondering if anyone had pictures or illistratons of there wireing order. thanx Derek

I would check the fuel cutoff switch under the dash at the passengers foot level.

It is supposed to trip when in a crash. Do you hear fuel pumps prime when you turn the key?

fuel pump works i have it on a switch what would cause the injectors not to fire if i have fuel to the rail? could it be that i dont have enough psi or is there a fuel injectors relay or fuse or something? any help is appreciated

check wiring & connections to the injectors...get a noid checker to see if they the injectors are getting signal.

yea if i do that and it still dosent start i think ima have to go to the 4.0 swap i cant keep messing with this thing its drivin me crazy. and the worst part is i know my engine is fine and its somthing simple because it ran great before this no starting happend .it was like it was turned off so im thinking its something electrical in the fuel at the engine because my pump works good.

OK, time to go back to the basics. An engine needs 3 things to make it run. Fuel, spark & compression. Take any of them away and it will not run. Do the basic checks first, hit it with a little starting fluid, if it fires and quits the problem is fuel. check the spark at the plugs, take one out, crank it over & look for spark. As long as you have the plug out check for compression also.
