Starting Problems

I may have misled folks when I posted having starting problems. Several replies referenced the starter. Actually the engine starts and runs fine when it has been setting for a spell or at fully operating temperature. It isn't a fuel problem - runs smooth, accelerates good and gets good mileage. The starting problem seems to be temperature related. If it only runs a short while then a restart kicks the starter out as soon as it fires but the engine dies. I found if I push the accelerator all the way to the floor it will catch. Since there is no direct manual connection to the accelerator I suspect either the air bypass valve or the air charge temperature sensor. I suspect the latter. It is a cheap item so I will replace it today.

If you push the accelerator all the way to the floor while cranking, the computer disables the fuel injectors as part of the "clear flooded engine" routine, but the spark still fires (assuming the throttle cable is adjusted correctly).

If it starts with the throttle all the way down, you may have one or more leaky fuel injectors, and your engine is flooded.
