ok so i bought a 88 ranger from my work and while it was at work i hooked a jump pack to the block and the the solenoid and it cranked over fine. now that ive had it home i tried installing a brand new battery and even when i jump the solenoid it dosnt even make noise at the starter so i swaped in one from my b2 which i know works and its still not even clicking. im kinda lost i just want it to run so i can get it out on the trails.

I can see where you're coming from. My only question is where did you hook up the + side of the jump on the solenoid? Check voltages at the solenoid, use an alligator clip to hook + to the S terminal from the ignition switch on the relay (the small booted red/light blue) and try to narrow down where the voltage is dropping off. Use engine as ground.

Edit: When you said it crank over fine, do you mean just the starter turned the engine over, OR did it turn the engine over and actually run? If it starts, but doesn't run, battery terminal depending where you jumped it.
