Greetings,

I have to damn near break my leg pushing the clutch in to activate the interlock switch to start the truck. Recently i just start shorting across the starter solenoid with a screw driver

I have already bought and replaced the switch module itself that wraps around the clutch arm. Did not help.

Anyone have documentationa about the system..?

Tips, tricks, ideas?

Thanks in advance for any info

Chewie

Well, I had one on my Ranger...until it wouldn't start one day...a guy told me to just take it off the clutch and bypass it with a jump wire...there are only two live prongs on the switch (may be different on your truck) so you can cut a piece of wire (not sure what guage to use, but mine is about the size of the little ground wire on the battery...not the big one...the little one) make it into a U shape, and plug it into the switch...just make sure you tape it in place so it doesn't fall out like mine did several times...

Hope that's what you were looking for...but, again, 96 rangers may be wired differently than my 88...so you might want to ask someone who has a later model if that's a fix for it or not...

And if you don't feel like fabricating, you can get a perfect-fit jumper wire from a similar truck with an automatic.

Or you could fix the problem that is causing so much effort. These things are adjustible, you know. If your clutch itself is hard to press, that's going to blow out the slave or crack the firewall.

I'm looking at Two Options - Short\Jumper the interlock or Adjust the switch to work

I looked at the switch, it has a 6 Wire Harness going in. Does anyone have a diagram to help me figure out which wires to jumper??

Can anyone tell me if the switch that wrapps around the clutch arm is supposed to move? Is it supposed to lock and stay stationary? I don't know anyone with another Ranger I can compare with and see what the action is supposed to be

Thanks

Jesse

Yes, the switch should move freely on the clutch pedal shaft. Your problem should be on the hydraulic of your clutch
