I just traded in a 99 Ranger sport with the 3.0 V6 for an 09 XL with the 2.3.
The motor really seems rock when I hit the starter. Is this normal. I have to say I don't have anything to compare it to as I bought the only vehicle I test drove. ( other than the 99 which didn't feel like this )

What do you mean by the motor really seems rock? Congrats on the new ranger and good luck with the 2.3. My 2.5 is a slug I don't even want to imagine the 2.3.

I mean feeling like a lot of torque or momentary shake as it's starting. I assume it's the normal way this engine feels firing up. But my last truck didn't seem like this. It runs great (hope so since it's new ). I was hoping someone else with one would understand what I'm trying to describe and confirm it's normal.

my 4 banger does the exact same thing.

seems normal. a friend of mine's '08 4.0 does the same and my '01 doesn't. I think the reason your old truck didn't do it was the fact that it's old and possibly tired. And the fact that the engine mounts were probably nice and worn down, whereas the new truck's mounts are nice and tight, therefore transfering all that initial torque to the body and in-turn 'swaying' the truck.

ur 2.5 was old school compaired to the 2001 and up duratec engine. its dual overhead cam, 4 valves per cylinder, 140 hp.. it will smoke ur 2.5 and get way better mileage:icon_cheers:

Just because it's new doesn't mean something was done wrong from the factory. Take it back to your dealership and have them check its motor mounts.

my 08 does the exact same thing, often takeing 2 or 3 very hard shaking times to start
