I am installing a dual battery system on my Ranger and I am wondering how I can splice into a starter wire so that the solenoid will only run while the truck is running or the key is in the run position? I don't know if this will be easier, or if tapping straight into the alternator would be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What solenoid are you talking about, for the dual batteries? The started solenoid wire is only hot in START, so its worthless. Why dont you wire the batteries in parallel instead?

I don't want to run parallel because it will run down my starting battery if I let it run to long. I want to be able isolate them once the truck is off so I don't have to worry about that.

I need to find a wire that is "hot" while the engine is running. Any help?
