Whats the easiest way to change out the starter solenoid. I think mine is going bad I was having trouble today. All I would get is a click and nothing else, gave the starter solenoid a good whack with hammer and then it was able to start. Do I have to remove the starter?

Your primary starter relay is right behind your battery. However there is also one on the starter, is that the one you are talking about? If it is then yes you have to remove the starter to get to it. And if I remember right it is non-servicable/replacable part, because it is pressed into the case/housing.

Yeah I was talking about the one on the starter. Well CSKauto.com (checkers) shows a rebuild kit for the starter. I already replaced the starter solenoid and it started the truck a couple times but eventually stopped working.

I should have tested the starter before I put it back in, but I did not. Oh well, tomorrow I will drop the starter again. I well buy a rebuild kit for 32 bucks and give that a try. I will find out if its actually pressed in there.

Mine did the same thing. check the connection that plugs onto the solenoid (the small wire). Mine had corroded where the wire joins the connecter. changing the connecter solved the problem.

Yeah mine was corroded really bad I put a new one on. That was actually the second thing I did after cleaning the battery. So I am 98% sure I need to rebuilt the starter.
