Doubt it.

If its trying to start chances are its a fuel issue

Time for the 50-50 test. Try spraing starting fluid into the intake while crankingnit over. If it fires and tries to run on the starting fluid, you have a fuel delivery problem. If it does not, then you probably have an ignition problem.

Either way, if you turn the key and it causes your starter motor to crank the engine, your starter relay and starter solenoid are both fine.

I do know.


And, yes there is. I believe that fuse is in the engine compartment fuse box.

OK , the fuel pump will run if the relay is jumped, but it does not run when the key is on. Where in the engine compartment is the fuse box? This is a 86 ranger 4wd 2.9.

Usually the same box as the relay. But I could be wrong. I haven’t looked in a truck that old recently. Did you try a new relay?

1986 still used fusible links.

I may have wired the new sileniod wrong.

The fusible links are connected to the hot side of the solenoid. Check that you put them all on the correct cable stud, and if so then test the link for being blown.
