I have a 1993 4wd with a 4.0 and automatic, it had previously had an engine swap from a aerostar van so I am told, I do not know what model it was but the starter went out and I put a new one from advance on it. It was a two bolt 3224 but it started to turn it over and then just splns. The drive isn’t enguaging the flywheel and the flywheel is rubbing on the nosecone. Seems as if the nosecone isn’t long enough. I’ve tried three different starters! I’m stumped

The important part of the starters on these engines is the thin aluminum plate between the engine and the transmission. It needs to be the correct one, and the large hole that the starter fits into has to be tight to hold the starter in place. If you can loosen the starter bolts and move the starter back and forth in the hole, that is not good.

Can’t say if it’s the right one but the starter fits tight but it’s not thick enough to hold the starter back that far

Are you buying the Aerostar starter?

Yes it list the same starter
