The past few days my 95 4.0 ranger was kind of sluggish when starting. It seemed as if the battery was dying on me. Yesterday evening it finally wouldnt start and i thought for sure that the battery was dead because it seemed as if there was not enough juice to turn the truck over. I bought a brand new battery and it still did the same thing. The starter wouldn't turn the motor at all. Today I went and bought a new starter and they tested the old starter and sure enough it was done. I installed the new starter and it just spins and does not catch the fly wheel. I took the starter off and went back to have it tested. I watched it fire out and spin like it should. Anyone have this problem? I verified that everything is hooked up properly. when I installed it the second time it did the same thing. Any help would be appreciated!

If you have an auto trans and installed a manual trans starter this will happen. The flywheel and flex plate for the 4.0 are not the same size.
