Lately the truck hasnt been wanting to start. It turns over and cranks just fine but its like it cant get anything to really start it up. And i know that it isnt the battery so im guessing it must be the starter. Correct?

If its cranking just fine, its not a starter problem.

What could be the cause? Once it fires up it seems to run just fine.

It takes a long time to fire up or won't fire up on the first try?

It just takes a long time. Sometime is have to try it twice to get it to start though.

Just went out and got it to start but it still took awhile and when it finally did start it really struggled and i had to give it gas to get it going.

Do you have good fuel pressure are you getting spark and do you smell fuel on the plugs In the tech library the TFI diagnostics will help you can you pull codes. We need more info. The first thing to do would be check all your wires and connectors and clean sand all the grounds and start eliminating all the variables. once you check and fix any wiring issues then you can start troubleshooting using the tech library. It is easy to overlook bad wires so get some good light and look for burnt or cracked wires and take the grounds apart and sand the surfaces with coarse paper before you put them together. Pulling the codes first off after you inspect the wires can somtimes isolate the issues but make sure your battery has a full charge before running the codes use the tech library it has alot of info and get back with us when you find out more whats going on.

The plugs and they look fine. the two and five plug have some oil around the threads though. No fuel smell on them. All i can tell you about fuel pressure is that the filter is new and I can hear the fuel pump going. The wires are around a year old and they all checked out okay. I turned the lights on and unhooked the battery and after that it hasnt had any problems and i dont understand that.

have you checked the codes you can get them to pull the codes at most any parts store by disconnecting it could have reset the computer and if the fault is still there it will tell you otherwise wait till it happens again and then get the codes I am not quite sure how to get them for your truck as I have only had to deal with EEC-IV pollution crap.

I havent pulled codes yet. Im not 100% how to do it on my truck and the auto stores around here can only pull them on OBD II systems

Check your fuses?
Maybe bad connection? I'd give it a check, Always a possibilty.
