so my truck has always had a loud starter. i really need to fix this problem before it causes more problems.

the starter is good shape an teeth are good bolts are tight sits in there good the flywheel teeth are good shape.

the starter is just noisy so its obviosly not connecting right an when the motor does catch the starter grinds for a second. in the cold morning my truck fires right up so id dont get much a chance to grind but it trys to an when its warm it turns over a few seconds an just dont sound good.

bolts tight good starter good flywheel mounted in there good anyideas?

Could be a bad syleniod, not giving good power to it, bad contacts.

well i guess i should too that it has a new starter solinoid the one on the fenderwell and new battery and new cables. got all that new stuff trackin down a previous problem that turned out to be the battery so all new stuff there now. does the dust sheild or flex plate as some call it thats between the motor an tranny have anything to do with it the guy at the shop said i needed a new one ? i hate to pull that tranny again

some folks have had good luck with this.

"cured the problem by replacing the
stock 9 tooth starter gear with a 10
tooth one from a '85 to '90 1.9L Ford
Escort."

Sounds like (no pun intended) the wrong starter gear. IF the plate between the motor and transmission is bent, it could cause misalignment, but I doubt it. If the starter is in too far, then thin washers in front of the starter will cure that.
Usually, I have found that type of noise is either loose bolts between the engine and transmission (anywhere around the block - not just the starter bolts) - a bad starter gear or a bad ring gear.
let us know

well today i put a small washer acting as a shim only on the bottom bolt just a normal washer an its better than it was all along its a lil less noisy with less grinding an i drove it for 2 years with how it was sounding before didnt cause problems just was noisy an now it sounds a little bit better i dunno if i should quit while im ahead or try to make it perfect lol
