Starter freak out

So today I went to go take a friend home, and my truck started up and ran fine. After I dropped my friend off, though, and got back in to start my truck, the starter stuck ON somehow. It revved my engine way up, I immediately turned the key off and took it out, but the starter sat there just cranking for a good 10-20 seconds before it stopped.

So, I'm thinking a sticking starter relay? More like hoping, and praying it's not a short somewhere. So, any ideas anyone? After it shut off, I waited a few seconds, tried again, and it started and ran fine once more.

Check the long thin bolts that hold the starter casing for the windings to the starter mount or nose.....I had mine back off/break

Could I check those while it's installed on my truck, or would I have to remove it to inspect those? Also, what would that cause? Did it give you the same problem I had?

Yes you can check it on the truck....if loose you can just grab the starter and get movement/twisting & forward and backward of some kind....you shouldn't be able to., you'll have to crawl under it. or try to twisting the bolt head

cause it....old age...over time those long bolts fatigue and break.

I would also replace that Solinoid, on the side of the engine compartment by the battery. They do that when they go bad. Also when you do replace it buy the very best one you can find. Motorcraft preferrably. The cheap ones do not stand up to the high amperage Ford starting systems require. I went through 3 of the cheap ones from autozone and advanced. They all stuck within a week of install. I bought one from NAPA and its been years with no issues. Make sure where ever you get it its the heavy duty kind.

Yeah, that's what I meant by the Relay. I checked Autozone and they don't even offer one. I'll definitely check Napa, though, thanks.
