About a week ago I noticed my bronco starter seemed to be dragging or sticking when starting. Over the next few days it got progressively worse until it began making that godawful grinding/thrashing noise when starting. I go out this morning to get another starter from o reillys. Stopped at mcdonalds to get coffee and lo and behold she let me down. Starter sounded like like a transformer wiping his hiney with a car hood. Push started it and picked up starter. Went home and pulled starter off. Put reman starter on and its doing the same thing! Its not engaging fully or something. Sounds the same. This is my only vehicle. 87 Eddie B 5 speed. Please HELP FAST!!

How did the flywheel teeth look?

Come to find out the original starter was fine some previous jackass only put ONE bolt on to secure it! Got refund for reman starter and put bolt on other side of it. Now it needs a battery. Does anyone know the part # for a battery for my truck?

Just measure the tray and get the biggest battery that will fit. Take note of where the positive and negitive terminals are on the old battery.

Just somewhat confused. You replaced the starter and then later found out that who ever replaced the starter left a bolt off?

Musta been a fast job :D

Who needs a part number? Just go to Sears and walk look at the chart.

FWIW I think I am running a BXT-40 right now. I don't remember the number for sure, but it's out of a 4-cyl Fusion. Cranks a little slow, but it does start every time. I took it because the truck sat a lot when I bought it and it was the lowest amp battery I could find that fit correctly. Low amp batteries don't die and sulfate as fast when sitting.
