started my SAS

***update

ill be getting the axle mounted up real soon. I got the tranny x-member mounted up pretty good. I just cut it where is wraps around the frame then sanwiched it in between the frame and radius arm bracket. The only damper is that i gotta go back to school tommorrow. Im hoping to find some time next weekend to put the brakes and hubs on, then get some tires on to measure for steering. Ill be sure to get some pictures of the axle when it gets hooked up.

here is some pics of the teardown. nothing too special. Pics of the axle in will be up hopefully in a week or two...now that school started again.

Finally got it stable.

ill get pics up tommorrow sometime, im hoping to have all the brake parts on. Ill see how much time i have. Right now the coils are in, knuckles are on. Im gonna get it to ride height so i can measure for steering. If tommorrow goes well it could be on rubber before i gotta go back to the school.

heres some pictures of the knuckles on, coils in too but not in the buckets. I didnt have the camera today, i have the coils in the buckets, and the spindles are all bolted up. Friday ill be getting all the brakes on, then working on the trac bar bracket.

i tried to get a pic of the tranny x-member, but you cant really see it well. Im gonna have to reinforce it or it will bend.

I'm speaking from exerience here and you need to fab a new tranny x-member for that thing or you are going to bend your frame at the radius arm mounts. What you have there will allow for to much flex. I would also put some flat steel inside the frame rail to beef it up.

lookin good. i just got done doin mine a few weeks ago.how long are those coils? nice h freight stands..the only way to go

Hey, just wondering what your doing for front shocks. The stock upper shock mounts seem to angle them forward and might rub against the back of the bucket when you try to install them on the radius arm mounts. I haven't worked on it too much yet as I haven't seen my truck in a month.....but if ya figure it out before me (besides cutting them off and using other mounts) lemme know.

yea im gonna be putting F-250 mounts on there. Im just gonna cut the old one off the bucket, rebox the bucket then weld on the shock mounts where they best fit.

what do you recommend for a design?

I don't have a way to post pictures at the moment, but I can e-mail you a few shots of the x-member I built for my truck when I did my SAS. It's simple, but strong.

PM me your e-mail addy and I'll send you some pics.

Basically it looks like this \-----/ with the ends being 1/4" flat plate and the middle being 2"x2" 5/16" wall square tube. In the center of the x-member is the mount for the tranny to bolt to.
