started my SAS

haha yea i remeber seeing a few of those on here so i took one too, now im part of the club i guess.

only thing i can tell from those pictures is that one of us was actually doing some work :thefinger:

haha yea i actually had something about that in my reply, but i deleted it. I didnt want to get my fancy new camera dirty haha. Actually i have a team of midgets running the show. I just sit back and drink beer.

funny story, i actually got help from my buddy on friday, and he broke the bolt that goes into the caliper to contain the caliper slider pin. I think ill do the rest myself.

well i got it on tires today. Sorry no pictures yet. It looks pretty killer under there.

Im ordering the steering tommorrow, and then im going to finish running the brake lines friday. After that, ill be working on the trac-bar mount.

i forgot the camera at school.

The steering is almost done, i gotta finish reaming out the pitman arm. Brakes are done, just have to bleed them. I drove the truck out of the driveway friday. I just realized today where i have the trac-bar tacked on, it will hit the steering when the axle flexes. I dont know how i didnt think of that before. So i gotta reconfigure that. Its coming along. Hoping to have it pretty much done in the next few weeks. Ill try to remember the camera for next week.

ill get a bunch of pics up for monday. Im hoping to have the tranny x-member all squared away, and the brakes all bled. I have to bleed everything including the master cylinder cause i broke that line earlier. That should be a fun time. So after this weekend its all about the trac-bar, and im gonna design some better coil retainers. Then of course there is shocks, but they are overrated.

here is how she sits now.

I commend you for upgrading to the larger joints and better brakes on your D44 instead of just sticking it in as is for a SAS. I know those early 44's had drum brakes and smaller u-joints than the D35.

(2) questions for you:

1) What is the width from coil bucket center to coil bucket center and from axle spring mount to axle spring mount. It looks like the mounts on the axle are slightly narrower than the mounts on the frame. \ /

2) When you mounted the radius arm brackets, did you have to drill all new holes or were you able to use one of the existing frame holes on each side to locate it? I think that I had heard the rear holes are already in the frame.

What are you getting at jim?..... My disc brakes are ready to go in next week along with my new shaft out of a 79 bronco fw 44. Just had to cut down the long side shaft and get it resplined. Now I got the same size joints as you and still don't blow out hubs....:woot:

As far as the radius arm brackets there is an exsisting hole in the frame that you use but I don't remember which one, I'm sure he can tell ya.

By the way, looking good chico. A lot taller then I would want but looks like some nice work. Definitely have to make a crossmember for the trans though. Like zainy said thats the way to do it.

351Ranger,

I wasn't directing that at you. You told me you were swapping stuff out to upgrade it. I was curious about the mounting hole though based on what you told me. I was wondering if the same was true for the Rangers.

looks good, reminds me of how mine used to look...

It's the rear hole of the 78-79 (for sure, could be other yr's too)radius arm bracket that line up with a hole in the frame for the tranny crossmember. The hole will line everything up for you, but all other holes will have to be drilled in the frame.

Couple questions for ya there Chicco. What are ya running for coils and leafs, or a measurement from hub center to fender would be great...I'm trying to figure out what my ride heights gonna sit like with the 7" EB coils and 5.5" chevy leafs. Thanks :icon_thumby:
