hello everyone, pretty new to forums in general but here we go
I wanted a dune truck (live pretty close to silver lake), so i was planning to turn my DD 2003 xlt 4.0 into a pre runner. in the process of planning out my build, i found a 92 ranger on Facebook market place on 44's for $1200 (picture at the bottom).
Everything's there and it runs pretty good but needs a bit of TLC. I'm going to try to document the prosses because I really don't know what I'm doing and it might help someone else or be entertaining.
I've got a general understanding and can use pretty much any tool, but I have very little actual experience building trucks. my step dad built a few dune trucks back in the day (they're Chevys, but pictures at the bottom for those who want to see) so ill have him to point me in the right direction but id like to learn as much as i can and do everything myself
it has a 2.9 in it with 280k miles that runs great for what it is. Eventually id like to v8 swap it but it runs great so ill wait until something blows or i get tired of it.
Not sure if it started out as a 2wd or 4wd. the rear axel is stock, and will definitely need to be re-geared for the big tires . I'm 99% sure the front is a dana 30. No clue what the springs are. Rear shocks are pretty good but could use some paint and new boots. front are pretty rusty so I'm going to replace those.
not too much rust for a Michigan truck, couple spots on the rear fenders, front fenders are rust free from what i can tell. worst part is driver side rocker and floor are pretty much gone. the dash is pretty much perfect so my plan is to just replace the floor and seats. frame still has paint on it, guessing it was redone at some point but no holes in it or anything
other than that ill just replace stuff as it breaks.
thanks anyone who has any feedback or took the time too look at this, not sure if big tire stuff like this is popular or not on here
