Standard or Reverse Gear?

Looking for clarification on some conflicting information...

In the tech library there is an article titled Dana 28 & 35 Specifications. In the table, column Dana 35 and row Factory Ratios it lists 3.21, 3.55, 3.92 (IFS). I have a 98 (IFS) however the tag on my Dana 35 says 3.73 with the rear matching. So my question is... Is this table wrong or did ford put an earlier model Dana 35 (reverse rotation) in my rig? I don't think so because the sticker has part number 610556 which the article refers to as a FORD 35 FRONT 1998 EXPLORER - NON DISCONNECT (SLA IFS).

I ask these questions because I'm planning on changing my gear ratios to accommodate bigger tires and don't want to buy a standard rotation gear if my front end uses a reverse rotation gear.

Ranger's that were pre-'98, and Explorers from '91 - '94 had a TTB type suspension and a center section that used reverse-cut gears. After those years, Ford went to IFS. All of the SLA IFS D35's will be standard cut gears. So, if your Ranger or Explorer is a '98, you'll have a standard cut D35.

It's confusing to some, because TTB is a type of IFS, and is sometimes called IFS, which is correct, but misleading. If you see SLA IFS, it is surely referring to the new style IFS.

So where is a good place to get some standard rotation gears for my Dana 35? I noticed they are not listed on the page with the other gears that we can by through TRS. Did they use 4.56 gears stock in any standard rotation Dana 35's that I might be able to find at a junk yard? I noticed on one of the pages in the tech library it lists some of the FX4 (I believe it's called) as being stock with 4.56 as well as some late model Explorers. Also... Forgive me for not knowing a whole lot... But will the gears from a diff. that has 31 spline axles fit/work in a diff. that has 28 spline axles (assuming same model diff./rotation)?

EDIT: One more question... Is there a difference between gears on an open vs. L/S diff.?

The SLA D35 gears are the same as for the Jeep rear D35, yes.

Looks like Jim may have added some info to that page, although it looks incomplete, and some of what's there is incorrect (I'll PM him about it).

D35 gears for Rangers are available as follows:

3.27 (HP)
3.55 (HP, LP)
3.73 (HP, LP)
4.10 (HP, LP)
4.56 (HP, LP)
4.88 (HP, LP)
5.13 (HP)

HP = Hi-Pinion aka Reverse-Cut (TTB)
LP = Lo-Pinion aka Standard cut (SLA)

Got some good info... I think. I got to thinking that the gear manufacturers would most likely (in an effort to sell more) post all the possible uses for each part they offer. So I went to the Yukon Gear and Axle website and what do you know... Select the gear you want and they tell you every vehicle that it will fit into. So now I have a long list of vehicles to look for when I go to the wreaking yard the next time I get a chance. Of course I'm sure only a small percentage of the vehicles came stock with the 4.56 gear ratio that I want... But I have a starting point and it'll be worth the search if I can save a few hundred $'s.

EDIT: After looking a little further I have found some more info on Precision Gear's website which includes the DANA 35.
