Stalls at idle

99 Ranger 2.5L I-4 --- Just had the plugs replaced and a few days later my check engine light came on and stalls at idle. Not sure what the problem could be, especially after having the plugs replaced. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The 99 have an On-Board Diagnostic System (OBD) that will give you codes and, usually, an excellent place to look for the problem...if you don't know how to pull codes you can read up a bit on it and maybe buy the scanner...or...you could contact places in your area that offer free diagnostics...

Pulling the codes should be the first step though...it makes things much easier...

The CEL is usually related to things that will not affect driveability, but more towards smog controls and the various sensors that are required by the computer to make it run efficiently...I know this from first-hand experience with my Suzuki Sidekick...the speedometer cable broke and I had the CEL on for about 3 months before I actually replaced the cable...it may affect fuel economy somewhat because the computer cannot adjust the fuel supply properly if a sensor or component is not providing accurate information...

yea, or something is very bad. like running the engine rich for too long and toast the rings.

get the codes pulled.
