Stalling at idle...driving me crazy.

If the IAC is sticking from carbon or just being worn out the plunger which is metal will be shiny compared to the rest of the plunger. If its shiny then its basically bad because its sticking which will give you erratic rpms at an idle.Cleaning it is a temp band aid fix and needs to be replaced. It and the DPFE sensor are the 2 most common sensors that go out on any of the newer Fords.

Scot,
When I pulled the IAC it had quite a bit of carbon in the valve, but the valve was opening and closing. I will pull it again and take a closer look today.

Cleaned the MAF with cleaner and no improvement....was worth a shot.

well, that leaves me to a harder thing to access, the EGR valve, it's a pain to get to the two bolts that hold it to the intake manifold, and narly impossible to get a wrench on the pipe fitting going into it...

if a EGR valve has a piece of carbon holding it open at idle it will make the idle irradic...

other than that, I'm out of ideas

Turned out that it was the MAF. I ened up taking it to ford and they said it had no voltage. Replaced with motorcraft part and she's back to normal.

Cool...how much was the replacement MAF? I remember Ford quoted me something like $190 for one...that's when the mechanic suggested going to the junkyard to scavenge one...got two for $5...:)

I paid $168 from rockauto. Had a hard time finding the correct one. Went to Autozone and Discount, but they did not have the correct replacement.

Yikes! Well at least you won't have to worry about that part for another 20 years or so...hopefully!
