Stalling after cleaning IAC Valve

Cleaned the IAC Valve with throttle body cleaner and the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner today. Put it all back together and connected the negative battery cable again, and the truck will not stay running without gas, or it stays around 200rpms.. I decided to clean it after noticing the truck continue to flare in rpms after start up and then stall right away, or idle very low at about 500rpms. But now I've got this new problem.

So basically, did I ruin my IAC valve? or is there another underlying issue. This is an auto transmission btw, so controlling the idle with the gas while braking is a bit weird.

same thing just happend to me. thought something else was wrong, replaced the iac with one from a junkyard i paid 8 bucks for and all is better now.
 
thanks for the info guys, no local JY's here so I'll have to bite the bullet on a new one later today. I'll let you all know if it works or not
 
Changed the IAC and that did the trick, started right up with a great idle, no stuttering whatever. (Lately it has had trouble starting, I suspected the fuel pump, but I believe this got it). Me and my gf's stepdad inspected the old IAC to diagnose if that was the problem, and we read the Chiltons and tested it. We could hear the solenoid clicking when we starting the truck, and the connectors even showed resistance of 10 ohms (7-13 was the range) but we just couldn't get it to work. The chamber looked pretty carbon'ed up though. Could that cause the plunger to stop working properly, or open/close enough to let enough air through? Trying to figure out the real issue behind all these IAC's going bad.

Regardless, the new part worked right away, came with a gasket too, which was not on there with the old one. Hope this info helps someone.

absolutely. I would guess carbon deposits as the leading cause of IAC failure.

I don't know if they're more sensitive these days, or that the reasons newer vehicles have lower emissions is because the emissions are sticking inside the motor :icon_rofl:
 
i've read somewhere that if you use carb and choke cleaner, like gummout or brake cleaner, it will potentially ruin the iac. This is what led me to believe it was the culprit in my case.
 
yeah the idle was't doing so good, and then i think 'cleaning it' with CRC Throttle cleaner is what killed it off. Oh well, would have had to replace it either way
 
Never had an IAC off of a ford (yet) but other brands use a rubber plunger and poke into a hole and close it off. If they're the same, the rubber may have gotten dislodged or rotted off. Either way, U got the bastard fixed.:headbang:
