Squish the side of my truck - how to fix?

Well, I was pulling away from a fueling station and turned too sharply and slide my truck along one of the cement pillars that protect the pumps.

I think it will be easier to just get a new door, if feasible, but not sure what year I can take from and would like some advice about the best approach to fix the rest. The only body work I've done is minimal and only on my bush samurai - so it's not pretty, but it works. I don't mind spending a bit of time to get this looking half decent.

Here's some pics. Thanks for any tips!

a hammer and some bondo can fix that. no need to change parts

Damn, did you hit it and then KEEP ON driving? I would have stopped as soon as I realized I had made contact with it.

I'd agree with both Ranger Sport and strvgr. Depends on how much work you want to put into it.

I was blaring my tunes cuz I only heard the crunching by about half way thru, and by that time the rest was just momentum. The first part is quite shallow so i don't think it made much noise.

I called a wrecker and he said they charge about $400 for a door. I think I'll be getting the hammer out and learning how to do nice jobs with Bondo. I think I've grown to used to driving my caged Samurai thru tight forest. Unfortunately, the only body work I've done is on that vehicle and it doesn't need to look anywhere as good as my Ranger should. I think I'll be ok, though. Hopefully it's not too hard to bang most of it back out.

Thanks again.

not to add insult to injury, but i think a set of curb feelers might be a good investment too

step 1: go back to drivers ed
Step 2: complete drivers ed
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit!!

but seriously how in the hell did you not feel it make contact!? you were literally 5 inches away from the point of contact. if a rock hits my grill i feel it. 400 bucks for a door? holy shit thats an expensive door. my advice, pay more attention, and get familiar with bondo.

ninja edit: just so were clear, im not trying to ba an asshole, it just seems that way.

Hah. Had to look those up on google. I think this lesson will serve well enough to remind me to keep a bit more distance between obstacles... at least when I'm in the city. :)

unless you payed cash it should be financed right? so you have to cary full insurance coverage on it right?

if they want 4 for a door, depending on your deductable and driving record i would file an insurance claim and get it all fixed for the cost of your deducatable. your rate probably wont increase that much and it all gets fixed by a professional body man

Looks like you drug your truck alongside that cement pillar for a while....what made you finally stop, hearing the noise or just notice a decrease in fuel mileage/performance?

Look around town for different shops that can ship in body parts. LMC had fenders online for like 150 each and i went somewhere in town here and it is going to cost me like 65 bucks without freight costs.

Sorry, cant tell you how to fix it tho. No clue myself. Good luck

Anyone know how far I can go back to find a match for the door? I called one auto wrecker and they seemed to be under the impression that it's only a couple of years, and that there was some minor, yet significant, difference in some of the older doors that look the same.

It seems to me it would be easier to cut and weld in new peices rather than try to hammer it back out. I don't mind the work so much, it should be an interesting project. I'd just rather start in the right direction and if I can find a door for a reasonable price, I don't mine coughing up a bit of cash.
