CheapRanger....this hyenna's for you.....

I either ignore them, listen to my 2.8 tick or let the fiancee in the truck to drown them out.

dangerranger.....good advice....I'll ignore CheapRanger..... ;missingteeth;

My 03 and my 96 have the same problem, when I'm alone, the seat rattles from even the tiniest little bump!! The 96 has the solid bench but the 03 had the 60/40 (obviously). The 03 would stop rattling if I moved the passenger seat up a little, the 96 will stop rattling if I put the bench all the way back. I think it kind of sucks that they did away with the full bench for 98, I like that space in the middle that the 60/40 doesn't have, that silly little "nub' the Split bench has is stupid! To recap: Buckets>Bench>60/40 Split bench

Funny that this should get brought up...

I have a couple funny noises that aren't so funny that my F-150 just started making. They're driving me nuts, mostly because they're loud and I can't figure out WTF is causing them. Three times now I've climbed around under the truck yanking on stuff and I haven't been able to get a single thing to make a noise or move. Yet when I let out the clutch and give it the go.... CREAK-crick-crick-crick and clickclickclickclickclick and squeakysqueakysqueaky. I thought for sure the last one was an exhaust squeak (sounds just like it), but I've yanked, tugged and kicked that exhaust pipe without being able to reproduce the noise. Even added another exhaust hanger to no avail.

I think the truck is just mad because I finally fixed the exhaust so it would stop banging around under the truck....

Either that or it contracted a case of gremlins somewhere along the way....

I've found that stuff rubbing against the interior plastic makes some awful squeaking noises. On my '84 BII the A pillar plastic and the dash would rub together and drive me nuts with the music it made. I folded over a piece of carboard and shoved it in the gap to separate the two, no more noise. Another time I had a speaker box wiggling against the back wall of my '90 Supercab, put a piece of cloth between the box and the back wall and bolted the box down better, no more squeaks there either!

And what other people said, replace bushings (rubber doesn't last very long exposed to the elements), lube them up regularly (I use LPS1 for rubber weatherstripping but a silicone spray will work too). But in the end, it's still a 20+ year old utilitarian vehicle, be happy it's still on the road and if it makes you feel any better, it probably squeaked a bit even when it was new!

I should probably also mention the cab mounts, as I know at least the rears will rust out. The one I replaced, did in such a way that what started as a squeak, was the bushing pushing the last little bit of metal back and forth, stressing it.

THe only noises I got is the crap I left in my bed, 2.9 tick, a fuzzy noise in the radio from the new alternator, screech from the alternator belt on start ups, and my exhaust pipe. This is after a cab swap too. I expected noise from everything.

Someone should tell me what to do about the alternator screech and radio noise. It is an annoyance of great proportions.

Theres usually a 2nd way to run a serpentine belt that will cause it to screech. Make sure that your running the belt the correct way. I recently had that issue when I installed a new belt. Thought I had it the correct way,as my hood & header panel are not original so Ididnt have the diagram to go from.

Thought about it for a while & then realized that I could run the belt another way & that took care of the belt screech.

some vehicles has a idle pulley that is adjustable...maybe that new alternator is really crankin out the amps until the battery fully charges...
