Squeaking from under the hood..

Hi guys I just bought a 2005 Ranger 4.0sohc 2wd with a 5spd...
started noticing a squeaking noise from under the hood..sounds like a belt or pulley type of squeak. I took some of that Prestone Belt spray and sprayed the belt and it made it worse. The squeak is constantly the same never changes tune or intensity, and its just enough to drive you nuts as you drive..turn the radio up a bit and its not even noticeable.

Any ideas?

probably needs a new serp belt, that spray crap is useless on old belts. only helps keep new belts new

yeah the spray is crap.. only thing you can do is take the old belt off, clean all your pulleys really really good, toss a new belt on. That's what I had to do to my B2.. just a new belt didn't fix it, I had to clean off the belt dressing from the pulleys.

yea i used some of it back in the day, and all it did was run down into my pulleys and make the squeeking worse.
