I pulled round u bolts off my truck but the only ones that I could find are kind of square...Do I absolutely need the round ones? The width is the same and i popped them on and they seemed alright but I had to pull them back off because I noticed a crack in the spring plate, so I'm wondering before I go back into town if I need to find some different ones.

If they look like what holds the anti-sway bar mounts on the rear axleI should think they should be fine for the springs. Though I have never pulled anything other than round of a truck/car. Seen several heavy duty trailers that had "squared" spring U-bolts.

factory 89 2wd and probably many other ranger u-bolts have a kind of flat/squared profile. there's no difference run whatever you have...

If the axle tube is round, you need round u-bolts.

Yeah but besides the shocks and driveshaft (neither of which is ment to hold the axle on) they are the main thing that holds your axle actually on the truck and a snug fit is the best.

I suggest you swap in a rockwell axle in if you want to use sqaure u-bolts, since they have square axle tubes.

PLEASE don't use them. Get the proper u-bolts. Round ones were on the truck, so buy replacement round u-bolts. Simple as that. Its a safety thing and its the right thing to do. Don't be janky.

i DOUBT he means square u bolts like that. im pretty sure hes just talking about the cross section of the rod itself. some are squarish while some are flattened out in the middle and obviously round on the ends where the threads are...

Most of the stock u-bolts have a square cross section on the portion that wraps around the axle tube itself, returning to a round cross section [obviously] where the threaded portion is. Thats why I assumed he was talking about the style of u-bolt (square top mount, versus round lower mount) because he said "round" when the stockers are not cross sectionally round, but they are for round axle tubes (round style with cross sectionally square area).

Eh.
