my 96 ford ranger will start sputtering when i have to give it more gas to pass some one or drive up a steep hill and it mostly does it in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear but it only does it once and a while?

Does the sputtering go away if you downshift to a lower gear when passing or going uphill?

only if im driving on a flat surface is when it stops sputtering, if im going up a hill then it gets a little worse

i put a little bit of Sea Foam in the vacuum lines and it hasn't been sputtering for the past couple weeks so i just hope that fixed it for good

You might look into your MAF. I had some sputtering and pinging issues and a new OEM MAF fixed it. If you decide that route use ONLY a Ford part.
