I have been noticing lately that when I am stopped and go to accelerate in my ranger it sounds like it kinda cuts out and in. its almost as if the exhaust is sputtering like normal acceleration, then cut out, then normal again really quick..

Once I get up and going it is fine but every Time I go from a stop it does it. I have had the engine light come on and (maybe not smart) disconnect the battery and reset it :dunno:.. Last time I disconnected bat and cleared it was about 1 mth ago and the check engine hasn't came on since.

I have a new set of plugs, newer plug wires, changed the fuel filter, oil not too long back.. I don't know much about engines but it seems like it might be a sensor perhaps causing this ? Any advice is appreciated (I know the description is not very specific or detailed)

Thanks !!

I would pull the codes and see if you have a stored code that didn't throw a CEL.

Thanks Graff.. I think what I might do is see if the light comes back on and then take it to autozone or whatever to check it out. I don't know if disconnecting the battery clears it or if they would be able to pull a code even after the fact ? I almost think its an oxygen sensor or something.. I believe it has to be something small and inexpensive (I hope)

Since the last time you disconnected the battery was a month ago I assume the code would be back. Disconnecting the battery does clear the code and it's also a big no no cause it resets alot of other memory stored in the pcm that helps your truck run alot nicer. You could buy an obd2 scan gauge and pull the codes yourself it is really simple and a scan gauge is always nice to have laying around (also really impresses friends when you can tell them what there CEL means lol) or maybe post in the regional forums and somebody will let you borrow theirs? I believe your right about autozone only pulling codes for free if the CEL is on.

I think I will opt for the autozone code if the light comes on again.. Don't really have another $50-60 laying around as my bills are raping me and I just bought a new stock for my SKS rifle :icon_thumby:
