Spring pack advice?

:icon_rofl: A lot of good that'll do him w/out an air compressor that's able to push that much air.

Say what you will about HF tools, but I bought one of their electric impact guns and love it. I got mine for 40 dollars, and there hasn't been a bolt or nut it hasn't handled. I haven't used my air impact for over a year.

Buy one and get this thing put back together!

OOh! I want...
Maybe after I get my jack... that kinda helps for replacing leafs huh? :icon_rofl:
But im gonna figure out which springs to weave together, get some poly bushings from oreilly, and clamps from autozone(couldnt find them at orielly site:dunno:), and I found these:

One of these should work right? If I dont get those maybe I can reuse the ones from both sets...

Anyway then my next days off look out!

Buy the double nib tip insert, cut them in half and save some money.

Didnt know poly bushings dont have to be pressed. Thats good to know.

Ok so what youre saying is that if I cut the explorer top leafs it must match one of of the ranger pack? I am not sure what you mean by dog earing. like grinding it smooth right? So you have to drill holes for pads, okay.

Thanks for all the tips and patience guys I am extremely new to this stuff and want to do it right.
Yup, poly bushings do not require a press. Once upon a time I helped a friend press bushings in and out of four leaf packs. After spending a good bit of time fighting with them to get them done, I decided it was better if I could avoid it.

I'll have to see about getting a couple photos of one of my leaf packs for you. What I'm saying is that when you build the pack for one side of the truck, when you go to build the pack for the other side, you need to make sure that all of the leafs you use match the first pack. Thus if you have a Ranger main then a cut down explorer main, then a ranger leaf, then an explorer leaf you have to duplicate that for the other side. And the explorer main that you cut down should be the same length for both sides of the truck.

You don't have to drill out the ends of any leaf you cut down for the pads, but IMHO, it gives a neater, more professional look, plus it helps prevent spring squeaks.

When you cut down a leaf, you should whack the corners off or round the end of the leaf a bit. What I ment by dog earing it was to whack the corners off - instead of |--| it would be more like /--\. I'll try to get a picture up tonight when I get home from work.

Yup, that's what I've done before! I just get the double nib, then take a pair of tin snips, cut them in half then cut them to the spring size.

Okay one more question...:D
Which leaf spring bushings should I order?
They list molded in and common frame shackle bushings and they are different diameters i assume. I was thinking it should be the molded in but would hate to have the bushings shipped and they be wrong.

Specifically I am ordering the energy suspension leaf spring bushings from either auto zone or orielly.
