I did the throttle cable mod (tc mod) on my '97 when I got it and it did wonders for the truck. Now on my '03 Edge I noticed that it could use a little help, too.

Upon inspecting the situation at the "business end" of the deal I saw something that I have never seen before - a spring. None of my previous 6 Ford/Mercury cars have had this, so i'm wondering - do I remove this and use a longer length of *something* to take up the slack? How would my truck respond to removing the spring?

It's a 2wd 4.0 auto extended cab, for reference. And input would be appreciated. VERY tempted to try. :icon_welder:

Thanks.

I'm not sure what spring you are talking about. Pics would be helpful.

All cable operated throttles had a return spring to bring it back to idle when you let off the gas. If that what you are talking about?

No, not at the throttle body - under the dash, where it connects to the gas pedal. Here, link showing a picture from TRS's own Technical Library/Magazine .....

Never had a car with that in it and my '97 doesn't have it either. I'm curious to know what I might expect by removing it's effect.

Oh, yeah. They started putting those on in the early 2000s for better pedal feel and return.

My Ranger had that spring on the pedal. I left it on there and just added my zip ties between the spring and end of the cable. I think it was done to cushion things, the gas pedal in mine felt like it was made of plastic - the entire thing, so I figured it was for reducing stress on the plastic.

Oh you are just jealous of my post count.:icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

I just try to say what needs to be said in one or two posts instead of clogging up a thread and worrying about your post count....

Maybe one of the mods will see fit to edit your post count... I've seen that done before, someone ends up with like -12,000 posts or something, lol
